JONATHAN "DOUGLAS" BERRY
Douglas is a 1976 graduate of Albemarle High School and enjoyed a distinguished 35 year career in the US Army. He received his commission after graduating from Officer Candidates School in 1986 as Distinguished Honor Graduate. He retired as a full colonel in 2013 after completing a deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan.
Throughout Doug's military career, Doug earned the title of top graduate, honor graduate or distinguished graduate in just about every educational program he was enrolled in. He was awarded Superior Unit Ribbon by Secretary of the Army, Honorable John O. Marsh in 1992.
In 2001 Colonel Berry was selected as Branch Chief , N.A.T.O. in Heidelberg, Germany. He served with the Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Task Force, Baghdad, Iraq, 10th Special Forces Group. He also was assigned to the Pentagon as the Deputy Director for Resource Management, Chief Information Officer.
Douglas and his wife, Col. Denise Berry, Ret., reside in Goode, Virginia Douglas has coached and refereed children sports while serving in the Ruritan Club and Rotary Club in Goode.
Jonathan "Douglas" Berry was nominated by Samuel Berry who noted that "Doug's accomplishments are too numerous to list. His roles and responsibilities are reserved for only the most seasoned officers in our military, all of which give great credit to those who influenced him throughout his life."
