CHARLES "CONNIE" CRENSHAW

Connie is a 1958 graduate of Albemarle High School. Following family tradition going back to the Revolutionary War, Connie served his country by enlisting in the U. S. Army and served 1959 - 1962.

In 2008 Connie followed his vision and organized the Albemarle High School Alumni Association. He continues to serve as the organization’s chairman which now has over 4,000 members. The Association has awarded nearly $50,000 in scholarships to deserving AHS seniors, established the Albemarle High School Alumni Hall of Fame, and created a website with thousands of pages of content. Through the Association, Connie has supported many 50 classes in conducting their class reunions, and has facilitated hundreds of thousands of connections among the 24,000 AHS alumni.

Active in the Jaycee organization, Connie served his local Charlottesville-Albemarle chapter as president and led them to recognition as the number one chapter in the state of Virginia. He served the Virginia Jaycees as State Vice President, National Director and the state representative in the National Criminal Justice Program.

He has been involved in numerous community service organizations and was an organizer of the nonprofit organization, Second Effort, Inc. For his efforts, he was honored as the Outstanding Young Man of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, and as one of five Outstanding Young Men of Virginia in a program sponsored by the Jaycees.

Connie is active in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, where he chairs the 32 member First Impressions Team. He also volunteers two days a week at the church sponsored community thrift store, the Earlysville Exchange, and writes a monthly newsletter.

Connie has a love of family, country and history that shows in his writings. He has worked for the past four years writing a family history book, Echoes Of My Heart...Throughout the Generations” for family and future generations.
